I met Donna Kulz (her professional name) when she was a skating pro at The Concord Hotel in the Catskills. That was in the mid-1960s. I can never forget how many times I introduced her to perform those wonderful ice shows she performed at that time. When I moved to The Pines Hotel I offered Donna a position of running the ice rink. She did a great job and we became close friends. Donna was so full of life and she touched so many lives on her time with us. The picture I've included here I snapped at The Pines. Although I hadn't seen Donna in many years, we did keep in touch and I feel an emptiness now that she is not with us anymore. What a wonderful person she was, and still is in my thoughts! Donna was my friend since I arrived in the United States. With time, we become closer and closer. I always admired her poise, pride and beauty. After I had Gilbert and Caroline our friendship continued to grow, especially with Donna giving lessons to Caroline. As much as we loved each other, it was the love that Donna had for her family that truly defined her as a wonderful, loving person.

Donna was one of a kind. She was my first skating coach when I was 8 years old up until I was 14. I spent 4-5 days a week with her in that time. Even to this day, Donna is the reason why even at 42 years old, I still love to figure skate. We shared many memories together over the years we were together such as our annual trips to Lake Plaid for a competition, participating in ice shows, early morning practices at 5:30am and get togethers off ice. Donna was full of life. She always knew how to make you feel so loved and special. Donna loved each and every one of her students as if they were her own and they all loved her. Her students never felt rivalry's against each other, they were always extended family. We followed her wherever she went. I remember how she always wore those furry headband/hats and her long coach's coat and insulated boot covers and looked liked she was going off to Siberia. How she always had a piece of gum in her mouth (Chicklets to be excact) but most of all...I remember how she was always there for me at the sidelines and no matter how bad the skate was, she was there for a hug and words of encouragement. Now, even after all these years, A piece of me will forever be broken off and lost. I want to thank her family for sharing such a amazing woman with all who knew and loved her. To JJ, your mom was extremely special and there will never be anyone like her. I hope you are feeling the love and support from all these memories. I am truly sorry for your loss. I am thinking about you and the entire family. May God bless you all.

Donna taught my three children to figure skate when they were very young. Thanks to her, my son learned the basics to later translate them into ice hockey which is his passion. My two daughters can out skate any of their friends and enjoy it as a favorite past time. She will be missed!

It was a huge honor having Donna as our coach. She’s always been one to remind you of your worth and how one loss doesn’t define you. Words aren’t enough to express how much we will miss her. She could brighten up a room just by walking in, and was the sweetest person. She was an incredible woman and everyones biggest supporter. Thank you for being the best coach we could’ve ever asked for and for being with us for five years.
Always in our hearts,
Doreen, Jessica, and Sam Wu

We were so grateful to have had Donna as a coach and close family member. Most coaches are strictly business but she was more than just a coach, she was a mother, a supporter and most of all an amazing and lovable woman to us all. Donna had been involved our loves for 15 years and has touched us all emotionally, she will never be forgotten and will always be missed.
Love always and in our hearts forever,
Jenna, Sarah, Darlene, and Richard Ernst
