Good afternoon to all:
It is with deep sorrow and regret that we learn about the passing away of Jimmy Upton. To some he was considered an esteemed colleague. To others he was a great friend and confidant. To his family a wonderful husband, father, brother, son, father-in-law and grandfather. His profound personality is memorable. The memory of his enthusiasm hard working capability, skillfulness, well planned and disciplined life will always be cherished.
For those who knew him as well as myself know that a lot of NY Crane’s success was due to his hard pioneering sales work along with his vigilance and loyalty to the company as well as Jimmy Lomma. He and Jimmy worked alongside for many years. Which is why it comes as no surprise that he and Jimmy Lomma became so close. I am certain that at this very moment Jimmy Lomma, Jimmy Upton and Jason Marshall are up in Heaven keeping each other company and running business as usual. His hard work and much success will go a long way to benefit many future generations and will never be forgotten.
Our deepest condolences and prayers are with the family. May God bless us all and my God provide us with the necessary strength to get through these much needed comfort and difficult times.
Kind regards,
Frank Signorelli

Our most heartfelt condolences to Maureen, Jimmy, Brian, and all the Upton and Tuohey families.
When I think of Jimmy, what I always remember was seeing a man who dearly loved his family. When speaking to him at a family event or get together, you could actually see the love and the pride in his expression as he talked about Maureen, or his sons and grandchildren. He would be visibly moved by looking at them and always tell you what a lucky man he was to have them.
We are wishing you strength and peace during this sad time. Our hope is that you feel surrounded by the love and support we are sending to you all.

Dear Upton Family,
Jimmy was a lifelong friend of my family as we grew up together in the Bronx. Jimmy was closer to my eldest Brother Richie, who I pray was at the Gates of Heaven along with his departed family members, to welcome Jimmy with open arms. I can't imagine the loss you are dealing with, but if its any consolation, remembering Jimmy's warm heart, I pray will help ease the sorrow. God rest his soul, and bless each of you.
Sincerely,
Dean

To Maureen and the Upton family,
I am so very sorry to hear about the passing of your dearest Jim. As Maureen’s colleague at ABLE Equipment Rental I was very fortunate to be able work with him on a few ABLE Rigging Contractors marketing advertisements placed in the industry books that he produced.
It was such a pleasure to work with an industry pro like Jim. I always looked forward to his visits to my office where he would calmly explain and provide clear direction as to what would work best in the crane books.
A one-of-kind gentleman. Rest In Peace.

Maureen, Jimmy and Brian, I'm so sorry. I lost a friend. A great friend. You lost someone more dear. Some people relate everything that happens to us either through the Bible, Shakespeare and/or more recently Seinfeld. In MacBeth, Malcolm says, "Give sorrow words." That's what I'm doing now. In Seinfeld, Judge Reinhold was a "close talker." My friend Jim was a close listener both literally and figuratively. He always looked right at you focusing on your every word. That's what I'll always remember about him during self-contemplation. I'm attaching something that I hope will bring a smile to Maureen's face. Love to all. Bill

I’ll never forget that September day in in 1973. I was just starting my sophomore year at St. Mikes and was waiting for my new roommate, who I’d never met, to show up. I heard a car pulling into the parking lot and turned to see an old beat up VW bug with NY plates. Out comes this good-looking guy who introduces himself as Jimmy Upton, my new roomie. Little did I realize at the time it was the beginning of a lifelong friendship I will always cherish. Jimmy was responsible for a lot of good in my life, not the least of which my family. It’s was at Jimmy and Mo’s apartment in Woburn, Ma at a St. Paddy’s Day party they threw where I met my wife Lillian. There’s nothing more intense than the sports rivalry between Boston and NY, especially the Sox-Yanks. We took full advantage of that over the 47 years we knew each other to exchange “friendly” barbs and good natured trash talking. But true to his place in my heart as a friend turned brother, he and Mo lovingly put together a beautiful collage celebrating the Sox first world championship in 86 years when they finally won it all in 2004, beating the Yanks along the way. Putting friendship over a rivalry. That was Jimmy.
Mo, Lili and myself, Jon and Andy send our deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences on Jimmy’s passing. You entire family is in our hearts and prayers.
Light, I’ll see you on the other side. Love you, brother.

Jimmy first came to the shop and pitched NY Crane, giving me the big binder with all the Crane charts. That's got to be close to twenty-five years ago. Jimmy just had a way with people, and we became close friends.
Everyone here at Sure Iron will miss his frequent visits, warm approach and constant help and guidance.
I remember so many times just laughing out loud with Jimmy, over some inside joke or reference. Jimmy was a real solid guy and a great friend.
My deepest condolences to Maureen and and the whole Upton family, you are in our thoughts and prayers.
With Love,
Steve Horn

It is with deep sadness that I learned of the passing of my dear childhood friend, Jimmy.
Our friendship began at the age of twelve on Alabama Street, Long Beach, where we both had summer bungalows. Every summer we would eagerly return to Long Beach for summertime fun at the beach, boardwalk, sports on the beach, beers and our group of friends. Even though we were summer friends from the beach (Jim from the Bronx and I from Nassau County), our friendship continued over the many years. Unbeknownst to us, our fathers worked together at NYPD in the 17th Precinct.
I fondly remember visiting Jim at St. Michael’s College in Vermont, meeting his friends and having a blast.
Soon thereafter, Jim met the love of his life, Maureen, and I knew immediately she was the “one”! Jim, Maureen, Lorraine & I double dated and all became instant friends. We have fond memories all together over the years.
I was honoured to be Jim’s best man at this Wedding to Maureen. Jim & Maureen started their married life in Woburn, Mass. and we continued our friendship with weekend visits there.
Fast forward, parenthood came to Jim & Maureen with the birth of sons, Jimmy and Brian. How Jim was so very proud of his boys and all their accomplishments of work, marriage and last but not least his Grandchildren. Mackenzie, Dylan, Liam and Finnley meant the world to him. They brought such a big smile whenever he spoke of them. I saw his pride and affection of his boys and their beautiful families replaying history as they brought their families to the same beach where we once hung out as kids.
I will miss my buddy Jim (a/k/a “Boss”) but will keep all my wonderful memories of him forever in my heart.
As it is said in Ireland, Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, but love leaves a memory no one can steal. Please keep that memory of love in your heart as I will treasure it in mine.
RIP dear friend!

I've known Jimmy for 3 yrs. ever since I first started with J.F. Lomma. I'll never forget his great smile that lights up a room and just his overall humbleness. He was always very kind and pleasant. I last saw and spoke with him last week right before a meeting at the main office. He asked me as usual how I was doing, but what really stood out in my mind is how he talked about his family and grandchildren. I in return asked him, "How are you doing?" and he replied, "I'm fine, but I really miss holding my grandchildren. I miss hugging and kissing them because due to COVID-19 it hasn't been the same". I am sure he is looking down on all of us now. He was truly a great man who was loved by friends and family alike. We will miss you terribly Jimmy! My prayers are with you, family and friends. God Bless!
