My heart is broken. Mr and Mrs Dahler have always had a special place in my heart. Joe was a very good friend of my dads (red allen) when I lost my dad he made a point of staying present in my life as well as my moms. Joe and Kathy would invite us to the cherrywood picinic and of course mom was on his bakery delivery every weekend. I went to look up their address to reach out again, been thinking so much of them lately. So sad to have come across this. I hope he is in heaven playing golf with dad. He will remain forever in my heart

In Loving Memory of Joe Dehler
Our deepest sympathies to Kathleen, his children - Rosie, MaryAnn, Eileen, Kathy, Joseph, and Richard, grandchildren, and great grandson.
Joe was a kind hearted friendly sole from when I first met him many years ago. Although we haven't seen him in recent years I'll always have fond memories of him and be for-ever grateful for the Islander tickets that I benefited from on several occasions many years ago. It was such a nice treat thanks to Joe to be able to go to a game as a young adult. I am grateful that I got to see him on July 4th a number of years ago at Rosie & Steve's house.
Joe's success story of how he moved up at Chase Manhattan Bank from a clerical position to Senior Management was an influence on me during my post graduate school banking days. I wish that I had continued in banking and got to be a quarter of the banking success that he was.
My dad Hy & his wife Noraida send their condolences. My dad has warm memories of Joe.
May Joe's memory be for a blessing and he soar high in heaven. Rest in peace.
Ron & Lynn Weiner-Balshine (Jaclyn's Aunt & Uncle)

Mr Dehler was always a great guy. He always greeted everyone with a smile and would say - having the time of my life!!. As a kid, growing up down the block from the Dehler’s, I remember Mr. Dehler running around duckpond drive for hours and his water stop was his a house. He was always so kind to me and my foundation , always donating toys or sending a donation and a hand written card saying - keep up the good work- proud of you John! My thoughts and prayers are with Mrs. Dehler and the entire Dehler family. God Bless you Mr. Dehler and thank you for the Easter egg hunts at Duckpond every year .

One of the last photos I took with this incredible man... I hope every day that my son grows to know who his “Great Pop Pop” was.
He cared for everyone he ever met, was more kind than could be imagined, and always did what was right for his family.
He was a Marine, an athlete, a successful businessman, a father, a husband, a brother, and a grandfather, to name just a few of his countless hats he wore. Not many can say they perfected and embodied all of these things, but he did.
On October 17, this world lost Joseph Dehler. I can only hope James grows up in a world where more men like this exist, and that I can be anything close to the man he was. Rest easy, Pop Pop. Have the time of your life, and we’ll see you again someday. I’ll bring the bagels.

My pop pop, “Joe Cool”, was truly the embodiment of an honorable man and a beautiful soul. He lived an incredible life and accomplished everything he sought out for himself. He was so kind, funny & happy, and made every person he met feel loved. Even after surviving a stroke, he never complained. I’ve never met someone who has touched so many peoples lives. He is the reason I was able to attend college. My nana and pop pop were together for 70 years, which is a love that people only dream of. He will always inspire me to the best version of myself I could possibly be, and not only to shoot for the stars, but to make sure I work hard enough to get there. I hope to carry myself, accomplish my goals, and make others feel loved the way you did. You will be so missed, but our family is eternally grateful because you are forever engraved in our hearts. And as you would say, we will make sure we “have the time of our lives” in your honor. - Grandson Bryan

The world lost a giant this weekend
This photo pretty much sums it up
We will be celebrating “Joe Cool’s” life and saying goodbye to an absolute legend this Wednesday, October 21st at Charles O’ Shea Funeral Home on Wantagh Avenue from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-9:30. If this man helped you “have the time of your life” in any way, we would love to see you and hear your stories. I post this only in the hopes that this will be shared with anyone he had the chance to profoundly impact. We all have been so blessed to meet so many people he cared about- and each time we thought we met them all, we were proven wrong. Perhaps he served as a fellow Marine (Semper Fi!), coached you in Little League, delivered bagels to you on Sunday mornings, ushered you to your seat at Yankee Stadium or St. Frances Church, bowled or played softball with you, ran a marathon alongside you, asked you to contribute to the “Golden Goose,” or snapped your photograph randomly in CVS asking for your autograph. “You don’t care about how much someone knows until you know how much they care.” Pop cared about every human being he ever had the chance to meet. And anyone who had the chance to meet him will always remember how he made them feel... and the way he made us feel will be engraved in our hearts forever. We love you always, Pop ❤️ Grandson Richie & Danielle McAllister
