Obituary
Thomas John Fisher from Merrick, NY – born June 19, 1928; died June 16,2021. Loving husband of Louise Fisher (1930-1977) and Catherine O’Connell Fisher (1928-2019). Father of Bishop Doug Fisher (Betsy) and Mary Fisher Liljehult (Jack). Stepfather to Danny O’Connell (Bonnie); Martin O’Connell (Marciel); Anne Marie O’Connell Piccola(Frank), and the late Tom O’Connell (Sue). Tom and Catherine shared 15 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Tom served in the United States Navy from 1946-1949. After leaving the Navy, he graduated from Pratt Institute in 1953. He had a 30-year career as an electrical engineer for Sperry. Tom retired at 57 from Sperry and went back to school for his Masters of Theology at St. John’s University where he then worked as an adjunct Theology professor. Tom was a man of many interests and hobbies. He volunteered with the Coast Guard Auxiliary, was a long-time member of the Long Island Chapter of the Minutemen Fife and Drum Corp and volunteered for the Interfaith Nutrition Network. He was an avid fisherman, a lover of dogs, music, and, most of all, his grandchildren. Family will be receiving friends on Sunday, 6/20, 2-4pm & 6-8 pm at Charles J. O'Shea Funeral Home, 603 Wantagh Ave, Wantagh, NY (SS EX 28N). Mass of Christen Burial will be Monday, 6/21, 10:30 am at Cathedral of the Incarnation, Garden City. Interment to follow at Holy Rood Cemetery. www.osheafuneral.com
