Thinking of Rich & his smile brings a smile to my face! We’d share laughs & stories & his was a great listener. Always asking how my family is, and truly caring, especially about my daughter at college, made him way more than just my postman! I considered him a friend. His stories & love for his family…so beautiful! His dedication to his job was incredible! I miss his smile & his stories but I will cherish the wonderful memories. Our heartfelt condolences to his entire family. Our thoughts & prayers are with you at this difficult time. Rest In Peace Rich. Lauren, Aldo & Talia Calabrese

So many memories, going to miss sharing my “Chili” on cold days with Rich, all our talks over families and Politics over the white fence, and the times we exchanged our Christmas gifts, he always came over with a big smile and a glee in his eye, he enjoyed giving more. God Bless an Angel in Heaven now, be at peace and know you will be truly missed

So sad to hear of the passing of Richie. I was his neighbor at #7 for many years. A prince of a guy. His kindness knew no bounds. I can remember hearing the snowblower at 5;30 AM. It was Richie clearing my driveway and sidewalk so me and my mother could get out. my late mother called him her 3rd son. Sincerest condolences to Donna and the entire family. REST IN PEACE RICHIE. GOD'S SPEED. John Caldarella

So sorry to hear about the passing of Rich. He was our postman at 33 Queens Street. He was always so helpful and kind. He often talked about his family and how much he loved his children and grandchild.

Richie will be missed so much. I worked with Rich for over 30 years and everyday we shared a laugh and the memories I have are priceless. He loved Christmas and I remember him doing “ The dance of joy” from a Charlie Brown Christmas, made us all laugh at the post office. My deepest condolences to his family. Russ

I worked with Rich at the Syosset post office from 2003-2013. Definitely one of the hardest workers out there. I miss those days playing in the branch 6000 golf outing with him. My condolences go out to his family. You will be missed. Thank you for the great memories Rich.

Please be comforted in that there are very few people who are known as kind loving people, your Richie was one of the very few honest down to earth good people I have ever come to have known in the USPS service. He was a gentleman through and through a rarity in the USPS. His daily presence made a difference to many of us as a positive role model. I have personally missed his “Good morning Dee.” My condolences to the entire family, we all feel his loss. May he RIP, God bless you Richie Lepis.

I played softball with Richie in the earlier 80’s. He was a fierce competitor and a very good player. We both attended each others’ weddings.
Although distance and family obligations kept us apart I will never forget our friendship. May you RIP up in heaven and show them up there how to play the game with grace and dignity.

Rich was known for answering “letters to Santa”. Here is an image where another carrier rcvd a long list of “gift requests” from a young girl on their route and Rich is perusing the list.

Richie was our mailman for several years. Over those years the relationship that developed between Richie and us was that he truly became not simply our mailman but special friend to us.
He always found the time to stop at our front steps to chat, sometimes just a few words, other times a more lengthy conversation. The subject could be anything. Local news, the world and its news but most of all family! He’d ask about ours and with much pride and joy he talk about his.
On the hot summer days and there were many we’d give him a bottle of cold water or leave one on the mailbox. It never ceased to amaze me how quickly he consume the water in what seemed like one long swallow! That simple bottle of water was certainly always appreciated.
Every summer he’d share with us how he’d look forward to his annual group getaway at “the lake!” Apparently that vacation had become a longtime fun tradition for Richie, his family and friends.
I must tell a “Richie story “ to paint a better picture about him. There was a time when my wife & I were away for a few days and Richie was aware of our absence. During that time my our son was doing work in our house with his pickup truck parked in the driveway. While making his rounds Richie observed the truck and knew it was out of place or not ours. So he simply did what many would not do! He called 911 to report the suspicious vehicle at our house. The police responded and quickly cleared up the situation. When we finally got home Richie relates the story which our son had already told us about Richie apologizes for his actions. I clearly & probably strongly told him that his actions were most certainly appropriate and well appreciated. That was an excellent example of a special person and great mailman!
We already miss you Richie and thank-you so very much for those special moments by our front steps!
May You Rest In Peace
