Wally, Lois, Leslie and the boys - Our family is so very sorry to hear of Walter’s passing. My first memory of young Walter was watching the videos he shot of he and Wally 4-wheeling and exploring at camp. He was a remarkably mature teenager and obviously worshipped his Dad. And then Walter and I went out to rescue John in a storm because his engine conked in the stream. Another episode in the Cook family rescuing the hapless Richardsons. As we saw him over the years he grew to be a good man and father. Our deepest sympathies, The Richardson family

We met Walter 9 years thru Cubscouts and continued the journey into Boyscouts with him. He was the kindest, most caring, friendliest man. He made such a difference in the lives of so many boys thru scouts but he also impacted everyone else involved. He always made sure to say hello or give a high five or something to any siblings who was at the meetings - said hello to every parent. He made a difference to anyone he met. He was always willing to help anyone! My husband who was a leader with Walter enjoyed every moment with him. They had such adventures at the campouts- summer camp - always. Walker taught him so much, and also our son while he was a scout. The last time I saw Walter he was in Walgreens before a meeting. He was all suited up and we chuckled because you almost never saw him outside of his scout uniform. He probably had no idea how special he was and the impact he made on this world. He was an amazing man who will be missed by so many. It was a great honor to know Walter.

Our deepest condolences to Leslie, Walter, Timmy and the entire Cook family for the loss of a truly great person and soul.
I have had the honor and privilege of knowing and working with Walter for the past 27 years. He always had a smile and was always up for the task, no matter what it was he took it on and made it happen. Walter will be truly missed by myself and all who have had privilege of working with and knowing him. He was a very dedicated individual to his Family, Friends, Church, and Scouts. He touched so many with his generosity of knowledge and talent that I am sure that he will be missed by more people than he could have ever imagined.
We were truly shocked and saddened by the untimely passing of one of the nicest people we have known.

This is terrible news. Walter was a great family man, friend and a treasure to our community. He will be missed. It is now the community that will need to help Leslie, Walter and Timmy. I lived this nightmare that they are living now when my Dad died at 48. My brother and I were about the ages of these boys. They need to draw strength off each other and their friends and family. Every one goes back to their lives but they will sit every night at dinner with an empty seat. The pain they are suffering is unimaginable.
Walter will be missed by all he was a special person and the patience of a saint. It was an honor to work with him in Boy Scouts.
Condolences to the entire Cook Family.

How blessed we are to have known such a wonderful man. Walter was a kind gentle giant who mentored many young boys and helped shape many men. He set an example for, not just the boys but for the fathers as well. He was so instrumental in helping Robert achieve the rank of Eagle Scout as he was for so many boys. A great man who will be sorely missed. I don't think another leader can fill his shoes.

Walter most definitely exemplified a life well lived .His reserved, cheerful demeanor had a positive impact on all who knew him. He walked the walk, putting his faith into action. Walter was a cherished family friend for more than 40 years. He and my son, Bill, shared a friendship that went from childhood to the present. No mother could have asked for a better friend for her son than Walter. My family has many wonderful memories of times spent with Walter. We are truly blessed to have had him as a dear and beloved friend. Our prayers are with the Cook family, that they will find peace and comfort in knowing that Walter is safe in God's arms.
Thank you, Walter, for bringing your light into our lives!

We were neighbors with Walter and we wanted to express our deepest sympathy at this sudden loss. He will be remembered by us as a man always willing to help his neighbors. This past snowy day we were particularly sad as he was the first to always come over ready to shovel us out. May his family find solitude and peace that Walter was a wonderful husband, father and neighbor. Good people like him are rare in this world today and he will be extremely missed on Maple Street. I was Walter’s 7th grade Sunday School teacher. Walter was always smiling and pleasant always willing to help. He was a model Christian in his words, actions and deeds. Whenever he saw me he would always give me a hug. One day he called me and said “ I have a 1/2 bag of gravel left over- I’m coming over to fill in your driveway”. He was always thinking about other people. He will be missed by many. Until we meet again Walter, until we meet again.

We always enjoyed seeing Walter at Anthony and Sharon's house, especially at their backyard firepit where Walter was always able to make the fire bigger and better than anyone. We were always amazed at how he could fix anything that he was tasked with! If Walter couldn't fix it, then it was unfixable!! Our hearts and prayers are with Leslie and their sons. Walter was truly one of a kind and we are honored to have known him. Love, Susan & Rob Ciuffo

I’m so heartbroken for the loss of this extraordinary man! I got to know Walter from Cub Scouts 13 years ago. Always there to help everyone with a smile on his face…. He probably had no idea of how many lives he truly touched!!! A true genuine man! I remember when my husband passed away, I came home from the shiva and there was Walter on a ladder at 9:00 at night in the winter putting plastic around my air conditioning units. He promised as other people did that they would be there for me, but most weren’t… Walter always was, the man who took out a tree that was falling into my pool last winter at 7:00 at night , digging it out with an old carjack that he was so proud of with a flashlight on his head. An amazing man that every man should strive to be like!!! An angel that walked here on Earth… I’m so heartbroken especially for his family and for everyone of us who lost him… a true husband… a true father..a true friend and a true man!!!

Oh Walter… there are no words. The impact you had on all of my boys lives… mostly Anthony. There is no one else like you. I will miss seeing your dimpled smile every day as you said “helloooo”. I will miss seeing your latest treasure from the side of the road and hearing Anthony yell at you “ what are you doing with that” but yet u always were able to do something and if not you saved it to help someone else. Always there to help anyone - friend family or stranger. Through scouts you made such an impact on so many of our boys… you probably will never understand how much u helped shape their lives. I could go on and on about the amazing person you are but anyone who met u for even 5 minutes already knows that. A man with a more genuine kind bigger heart I have never known. For now I hope u are sitting in a cabin by the lake in Maine eating mallomars with a pile of junk to tinker with next to you and a roaring bonfire behind you. I will miss u and the world is not the same without u. Thank u for years of friendship… it was an honor to have u in my life. Rest In Peace

Every memory we have of Walter makes us smile. Pastor and I were privileged to know Walter since he was 7 years old. He was a delightful, happy child, a terrific teenager and a wonderful, loving, caring man. We shared many prayers, laughs and a few tears but his strength and commitment to his family, friends and church were a witness to all. He was always ready, willing and able to help whoever or whatever the project. He did all things well, especially loving his family who he cherished. We are honored that Walter kept in touch with us after our retirement sending texts and photos…he was a treasure. During our last text when he shared a photo from a Cub Scout weekend and I told him how proud I was of him, he simply stated “ I try my best with what God gave me.” That is how we will remember Walter….he always gave his best.
Until we meet again,
Pastor and Miss Gail Williamson

My best memory of Mr. Cook was when we were all in the 5th grade, we came up with this grand plan to build an underground base underneath the Cook’s backyard, and set up a tv down there. Instead of telling us how unrealistic this was, Mr. Cook not only let us dig a hole in his yard, but he was actually out there helping us. That was the type of man he was. Apart from nice gestures like that, he was also one of two Cub Scout leaders along with Anthony Ciuffo, to whom I owe the majority of my greatest childhood memories to. Rest In Peace Mr. Cook, and thank you for everything.
