I was shocked and so saddened to hear of Ed's passing. He and my brother, Daniel Macaluso (deceased.1984), were best and long-time friends as school age children through young adulthood. I remember them together many times as kids. After Danny died, Ed and I stayed in touch. I would meet up with him when I went home to Long Island to visit, and he even visited and stayed with me here in Colorado in the late 1990s when he considered moving here. Ultimately, he went back home where his ties and love for his family were very strong. I couldn't blame him since I missed my own family so much, but I had established a new life here long ago.
Although Ed and I used to talk every so often sometimes for hours, unfortunately it has been years since we spoke, Today I called an old high school girlfriend who I stay in touch with and she mentioned Ed's obituary in Newsday and asked if I knew him, and that is how I learned that he passed. How I wish I would have called him when I thought of him over these years. Did he ever marry? Was he happy? Did he become ill? So many questions. He was such a good guy with a great sense of humor. We laughed a lot, and I have some great memories of our conversations.
I am so sorry for your loss. Please accept my condolences. I will pray for Ed O'Brien, Danny's old friend and mine.
