Dear Haag Family : My sincere condolences on the passing of Howie. I was a Lt. at Dist.34 from 1974-1986. Howie was one of our anti crime officers teamed with Bobby Rice.[ called Long Grain and Short Grain] During his time there they made numerous arrests and were known as a highly effective team. Howie and I always got along well He was a good cop and supervisor. In 1991 I was a Captain and was selected by Chief Bratton to establish a Tactical Patrol Force unit to stem crime on trains from 7PM to 3:30 AM. Howie volunteered to join my unit. I appointed him as my Executive Officer and he was excellent in that role. I will miss chatting with him at retiree meetings. May God comfort you at this time of sorrow. Stan Reiter, Inspector Ret, TPD.

Very sorry to hear of the passing of Howie Haag. I met him in 1968 at Fresh Pond Road Command 31a. We bowled together and he played softball for many years in the Transit Police Softball League. Howie was an All Star pitcher and an excellent basketball player and a member of the Retired Transit Police Sports Hall of Fame. Condolences to his wife Barbara and the entire Haag family. May he rest in peace.
