Dear Haag Family : My sincere condolences on the passing of Howie. I was a Lt. at Dist.34 from 1974-1986. Howie was one of our anti crime officers teamed with Bobby Rice.[ called Long Grain and Short Grain] During his time there they made numerous arrests and were known as a highly effective team. Howie and I always got along well He was a good cop and supervisor. In 1991 I was a Captain and was selected by Chief Bratton to establish a Tactical Patrol Force unit to stem crime on trains from 7PM to 3:30 AM. Howie volunteered to join my unit. I appointed him as my Executive Officer and he was excellent in that role. I will miss chatting with him at retiree meetings. May God comfort you at this time of sorrow.
