Obituary

The world lost a Legend on June 5, 2023, surrounded by his family, with the laughter of his grandchildren echoing throughout his house. Thomas Matthew Ryan passed away at the age of 69 after a short battle with cancer. Beloved husband of Peggy. Devoted father of Matthew, Nicole DiMichele (A.J.), and Jennifer Hartmann (Kevin). Loving grandfather of Isabella, Dylan, Emily, Taylor, Karlie, Luke, Bobby, Maggie, and Hannah. Cherished brother of Denis, Michael, and Sheila.

Tom touched the hearts of everyone he met with his kind and compassionate spirit. His sense of humor and smile brightened our days and will remain with us always. His loyalty, unconditional love and generosity to those he cared about were unmatched. His steady guidance to all who sought his counsel will be missed. Tom will be remembered for his professional accomplishments. He was the proud owner of West Side Foods in the Bronx, making it one of the largest local businesses of its kind and helped to build Jake’s Steakhouse in the Bronx and East Meadow into what it is today.

Tom considered WSF and Jakes to be his second family and he cared about them deeply. Tom saw the good inside of everyone he met and believed that we could achieve all our dreams through hard work and determination. Tom loved soccer and the beach. He became a beloved soccer coach for 20 years, coaching both the East Meadow Dream Team and the East Meadow Eagles. He was the Vice President of the East Meadow Soccer Club for many years as well. We ask that you think of Tom every time you step on the field or dip your toes in the ocean. Know he will always be with you there.
