Obituary
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our brother
Beauvoir Edmond Jr. He transitioned on Saturday, June 3, 2023,
after a long and courageous battle with colon cancer, at Langone
Hospital Hospice, NYC. He was 64 years old. Born on December
14, 1958 in Chicago, Illinois to Haitian-American & medical
professionals Dr. Beauvoir Edmond, MD and Raymonde Kelly, RN,.
Beau spent time in both secondary school and college in the
Midwest. He excelled in academics and sports. Beau graduated at
Edwardsville High School in Edwardsville, Illinois.
A life long student, Beau began his collegiate career at Bradley
University and obtained his first bachelor’s degree in Liberal
Studies from Southern Illinois University (SIUE). As a polyglot he
also studied abroad at the American University in Rome, Italy.
*
His love of fashion, design, and the arts led to an opportunity to
study at the Fashion Institute New York City, with a focus in
merchandising. He then relocated to New York City for his next
chapter.
The study in merchandising led to opportunities to work in a made to-measure setting at both Brooks Brothers and later at Bergdorf
Goodman, in NYC, which allowed him to hone his many talents and
skills, while furthering his creative passion. Be it his beloved NYC,
or Montreal, London, Paris, Milan, Rome, Amsterdam, Berlin,
Sydney, Beau looked forward to his adventures and discoveries,
while finding inspiration and joy in each of his travel destinations.
*
Later in life, he returned to school to earn a second bachelor’s
degree and a Master of Science in Acupuncture at the Swedish
Institute, College of Health Sciences, in New York City. As a
member of the LGBTQ community, he was an activist and advocate
for human rights within his community and at-large. Beau loved art,
music, theater, opera, and dance. Everyone who knew him knows
his big personality and memorable laugh. He always spread his
positive energy and joy to those around him.
He is preceded in death by his late parents Dr. Beauvoir
Edmond and Raymonde Kelly, and brother SSG Jean-Robert
Edmond, US Army. Beau leaves behind his siblings Clyde
(Carmen), Daniel, John (Ann), Paul, Jimmy, Gabriel (Mary), and
sister Nadja. He is also survived by his stepmother Macula Edmond,
several nephews and nieces; his extended family and relatives in the
US and abroad; and his dear friends.
*
Beau will be missed by all who knew and loved him; those whose
lives were touched by his generosity of spirit; his sage wisdom, keen
sense of humor; his love of life; his genuine connections with
others, and his reassuring company.
The family would like to acknowledge and thank the medical staff,
nursing teams, and administrators that provided ongoing treatment,
care, and comfort to Beau, as well as the amazing people that have
been a part of Beau’s life and journey.
Special Thanks
The NYU Langone Health - Tisch Hospital took exceptional care of Beau throughout his battle and he wanted to be cared for in that hospital at every opportunity. The family sends a sincere and warm thanks to the Tisch Hospital, the medical staff, the administrative staff, and all those who were part of Beau’s support team.
