Obituary
Annmarie (Coco) Bernauer, passed away on September 27, 2023, at the age of 73. She was born in Manhattan on October 12, 1949, the first child of the late Angelo and Catherine Coco (Garafalo).
She grew up in Rockville Centre, NY, attended St. Agnes High School in Rockville Centre, and went on to receive a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Education from St. John’s University. She was a beloved teacher and colleague in the Westbury school district for more than 25 years, and a resident of Farmingdale for more than 40 years, before moving to East Islip in 2018.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Edwin Bernauer of East Islip, NY, sons Edwin (Lorraine) of Wantagh, NY, and David (Shannon) of North Wales, PA, and her beloved grandchildren Nikki, Allie, Justin, Gabriella, and Grace.
She is also survived by her younger brother Edward Coco (Patricia), sister-in-law Margaret Casaccio (Vic Gagliano), several cousins, nephews and a niece.

She was an extraordinary wife, mother and grandmother who treasured time with her family more than anything. She loved visiting new places, planning family vacations and traveling to many countries with her husband, friends, and family. She loved to cook, especially her devoured rice balls on the holidays and was an avid reader. She also enjoyed socializing, playing mahjong, and other games with her Westbrook Village retirement community neighbors.
Family will receive friends Friday, September 29, from 2- 4 p.m. and 7 – 9 p.m. at Charles J. O'Shea Funeral Home, 2515 N. Jerusalem Rd., East Meadow, NY.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Island Harvest or SmileTrain.
