Obituary

Emily I. Avila Looper was born Emily Isabelle Rymelle Brown on July 28, 1951 at Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan, New York. She was called home on September 20, 2023 at South Shore Hospital in Bay Shore, New York at the age of 72. She was the daughter of Elwood Brown and Ruth Nelson. Her early childhood was spent in the Bronx and later the Family moved to Long Island. Her Mother died when she was young and she was taken in and adopted by her Aunt Dorothy Allen and Uncle Earthen Allen. She lived with them and her cousins, Nelson and Barbara up until her teenage years. As a teenager she came to live with her Foster Family, Papa Lopes Martinez and Mother Eleanor Martinez and their children in Lakeview, New York. She considered them to be her real family. Emily graduated from Malverne High School and started a career working in retail. She was married briefly to first husband, Anthony Avila. When Emily was in her late 40s, she met her second husband, Victor K. Looper Jr. In Emily's mid-60s, she developed dementia. Despite these health barriers, she was always in good spirits. Emily enjoyed TV, reading and traveling. Emily along with Victor have traveled to many places: Vermont, South Carolina, Paris, Rome, London, cruises to the Bahamas and Bermuda and various places where Victor's Family Reunion was held. Emily has been described by those who knew her as a sweet and lovely person. Some other adjectives that can be used to describe Emily are: kind, caring, helpful, precious and warm. Emily leaves behind her husband of over 20 years, Victor K. Looper Jr. She is also survived by her family and friends.
