As we heard of the passing of Mr. Kowal, first of course, disbelief and then deep sadness. How can someone so kind, thoughtful and full of life be gone so soon? We had spoken to him on New Year’s Day, to say hello and were planning to get together, again, probably meet at McDonald’s, to catch up. But that didn’t happen. We are deeply sorry to hear of his passing and he will be missed greatly. He was not just a school psychologist, and guidance counselor to our son, Giovanni and his classmates, he was our confidante, our guidance counselor and our friend. Always had kind words for us on our parenting and advised us in a gentle, caring, and respectful manner. He was great to talk to, hence, why we enjoyed getting together. He talked about his family with great love and pride. He had a great outlook on life and seemed to live it to the fullest. We will miss our dear friend, Mr. Kowal, and our thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.

Nancy, Dan & Lindsey,
Bruce was one of the nicest and kindest people I have ever known. I never heard him say anything negative about anyone. He was truly a mensch and will be sorely missed.

One of the best- always full of energy and positivity. I’ll never forget all of the bike rides we did together, Bruce the juice. Summer and bike rides will never be the same without you, but I’ll be thinking about you every time I hit one of our old trails. I’m just one of many who will miss you BK. Until we meet again, keep riding.

My condolences to the whole family and the community on the loss of Mr. Kowal. When I saw his passing posted on Facebook, I instantly felt an aura of grief. Just looking at his picture I could immediately recall the pleasant and friendly voice of Mr. Kawal asking how my day was and just chatting around. Often times he would be one of the school staff/teachers that looked after us in the library for the after school homework program. He didn't always know how to answer my math or science questions but he always found a way by either finding another student at the homework center that I was personally too shy to ask, or to his fellow peers that also worked there occasionally. He always encourages his students and sprouts positivity to whom ever he meets. He was and always will be one of my favorite role models from New Hyde Park Memorial.

Nancy, Lindsay and Daniel.
Your Husband and Dad was a special man that was taken too soon.
He loved his family with all his heart and I know he is watching over you with your grandma from heaven.
Daniel and Lindsay. I am sorry we never met but I know from my few conversations with your dad that he was extremely proud of both of you..
I have fond memories of your dad water skiing and snowmobiling. He
Loved life and always had a smile for everyone.
Love Uncle Barry.

Please accept my deepest condolences on the loss of Bruce. I worked with him for 9 years at NHP Memorial and was his teaching assistant for a few of those years. I will always remember him with a smile on his face and drinking his coffee with chocolate milk. May Bruce Rest In Peace…
