Obituary
Robert L. Harrison of East Meadow, aged 80, passed away on July 6th, 2024, leaving behind a legacy cherished by his family and friends. He was a devoted husband, loving father, a poet, a photographer and a trusted friend.
He is survived by his loving wife Dorothy, his sons Roger and Kevin (Geri) and two grandchildren Cailyn and William.
Born in Oceanside, NY and raised in Hicksville and Syosset with his older brother Thomas. Robert served honorably in the Air Force as a Military Policeman and Photographer at Holloman AFB in White Sands, New Mexico. He graduated Syosset HS in 1961, Nassau Community College, Stonybrook University and Hofstra University.
He was honored with the George M Estabrook Distinguished Service Award and later served as President of Hofstra University’s George M Estabrook Alumni Association.
Robert worked at BOCES in Special Education where he met his wife, Dorothy, and later became manager of the MTA-Long Island Bus Command Center.
Robert had a passion for poetry, nature photography and the Mets. His poems have been published in many anthologies, some self published chapbooks and his own published book “Green Fields and White Lines.” His photographs have been exhibited in galleries around Long Island and his love of the Mets continues on in the next generation of Harrisons.
