Obituary

Mary A. Couvaris, of Bellmore, passed away on August 3rd, at home with her loving family by her side. Born to Lauretta and Louis Erckert on November 3rd, 1946, in Brooklyn, Mary was the beloved wife of Peter Couvaris. She was a loving mother to Peter Couvaris Jr., Lauretta (Scott) Lewis, Charlene (John) Johnson, Korrin (Derek) Richards, Thomas (Jamie) Couvaris, and Brian (Kimberly) Couvaris. Mary adored her 16 grandchildren: Danielle, Matthew, Peter, Thomas, Nicholas, Kyle, Sean, James, Drew, Kacey Mary, Kamryn, Damon, Charlotte, Georgia, Theodore, and Mackenzie Mary. She also adored her three nieces who were like daughters and their families. Susanne (Smith) Adamsky, Lauri-Ann (Smith) Geraffo, and Melissa (Smith) Gaudioso. Mary was the matriarch of her family, and her loss will leave a void in all of their hearts. She always put her family before herself and cherished the simple pleasures in life, particularly Sunday dinners with her children and grandchildren and family trips to the lake. Despite facing many tragic losses and serious health challenges throughout her life, Mary showed incredible strength. Her loving husband provided unwavering care, especially over the past six years, with continued support from her children and grandchildren. Mary was a force to be reckoned with—tough on the outside but tender-hearted. She is now at peace, reunited with her sister and best friend Lorraine, her parents, her grandson Kyle, and all her siblings, family, and friends who passed before her. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to her aide, Maria, who cared for Mary with love and compassion. The family will always be grateful that God brought Maria to their home.
