Obituary

Jack I. Stern, 64, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2024, surrounded by family, in Charlotte, NC. Jack dedicated his career to helping others as a Family Services Counselor at St. Charles Cemetery. His warm, funny, and easy-going nature made him a cherished presence both professionally and personally. Jack was born on September 11, 1960, to Leah and Paul Stern in Queens, New York. Although he lost his Father Paul while incredibly young he grew up surrounded by love and laughter, which he carried into his own family life. He is survived by his loving wife, Lisa Stern; his cherished son, Connor; his adored brother, Steve Stern; his mother and father in-law Bill & Pat, and his Brothers and Sisters in-law Juli Stern, Kelly & Mike Sanfilippo, Eddie DePuy & Mary McGarvey DePuy, Billy & Lisa DePuy, and Michael & Kristina DePuy. Jack was an amazing Uncle and will be missed by Nieces Joanna, Felicia, and Finley, and Nephews Jason, Brian, Max, Brendan, James and Rock. He loved being a Great-Uncle to Taylor, Stevie, Gracie, Annaliese, and Aiden. His parents and sisters, Rachelle Stern and Iris Stern, and in-laws Bill & Pat DePuy preceded him in death. A lifelong sports fan, Jack passionately supported the New York Giants and New York Yankees among other teams. His hobbies included spending time with his beloved puppies, Coco and Callie, playing poker especially Texas Hold 'Em, and he never missed an episode of Jeopardy. His love for cooking especially Grilling was well-known among his friends and family. Nothing made Jack happier than people enjoying his food and his chicken wings were legendary. He was also enthusiastic about music especially classic rock and the Who was his favorite band.

Although leaving us too soon, it is a comfort to his family that he was able to retire in June and was greatly enjoying his life with Lisa in their dream home in North Carolina. Jack enjoyed participating in his new community’s activities including the Poker and Billiards club and making new friends. He was happiest hanging out on his patio enjoying the scenery and tending to his garden while BBQing for his new friends and neighbors. Family will receive friends Friday 3 pm – 8 pm at the Charles J. O’Shea Funeral Home, 603 Wantagh Ave, Wantagh NY (28N SS PKWY). A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, 10:45 am at St. Frances de Chantal Church. Cremation is Private. www.osheafuneral.com
