John P. Mahon, ESQ was a long time resident of Wantagh, NY who passed away on October 22, 2019 at the age of 98. Beloved husband of the late Elizabeth “Betty”, his wife of 69 years, who passed away on July 26, 2019. Devoted father of Carol Ann Salazar (Anthony), Eileen Price (Paul), Teresa Tavelli (Mark), Patricia Rosaschi (Charles), Barbara, Beth Mooney (Jay), Jim (Stephanie), Larry (Joan), Ken (Mary Beth), Stephen (Tara), and Brian (Tracie). Cherished by his 28 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Loving brother of Matthew, and predeceased by Thomas and Michael. John was an active member of St. Frances de Chantal R.C. Church in Wantagh, NY, where he was a 4th Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus, a Knight of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, and involved in many other church and community services. John attended St. Francis College until he entered Military Service in 1942. After his Honorable Discharge from the Army Air Corp/U.S. Air Force in 1945, John attended St. John’s University Law School where he was member of the Law Review and, in 1948, obtained his J.D. He obtained his LL.M in Labor Law and Aviation Law from New York University in 1952. In 2015, John was awarded an honorary Masters Degree from St. Francis College.

John is the founder of Mahon, Mahon, Kerins & O’Brien, LLC and was Of Counsel to the firm and actively engaged as an attorney until his death. On November 22, 2018, John celebrated 70 years admission to the New York State Bar. John was a member of the American Bar Association, New York State Bar Association, Nassau County Bar Association and a Charter Member of the Catholic Lawyers Guild. Christ trophy, awarded annually to Nassau County winner Former Member, Citizen’s Education Committee (State) Representative of Bar Association Channel 4 Community Advisory Former Member, Channel 21 Community Advisory Board Former Member Drug Advisory Committee (Wantagh Schools) Former Chairman, St. Frances School Committee Producer & Host of Weekly Radio Show, “Learning about the Law” For over 20 years on WRHU-FM Producer and Host of Weekly Radio Show, “Long Island Community Spotlight” For over 10 years on WRHU-FM Produced Special Issue of New York Law Journal in Celebration of 25th Anniversary of Nassau County Bar Association Planned & Directed “Living Constitution” Installed in Nassau County Supreme Court Lobby John was an inspiration of faith, love, and kindness to the people he touched. Though his passing leaves a huge hole, we find comfort knowing that he is reunited with the love of his life, Betty. His passing reminds us how blessed we are to have shared our journey with such a great father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
