Billy served in Alpha Company, 3rd Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division from 1965 to 1967. He served as a combat infantryman in Vietnam from September 1966 to September 1967. Billy's Vietnam service brought him from the beaches and rice paddies of Phu Yen Province, to the mountain jungles of Pleiku Province. The 4th Infantry Division motto was "Steadfast and Loyal", and Billy was just that. He was an inspiration and friend to me, and was a founding member of the 3/12 Infantry Vietnam Veterans Facebook group. I will miss our phone calls and emails. I will continue to do all I can to ensure that his Vietnam story, and the stories of his brothers in the 3/12 Infantry continue to be told. Braves Always First - Mark Coonrad.

My thoughts, prayers and sincere condolences go out to the Lomnicki family and to all of Billy's fishing friends who got to share the sand with him. Although I never had the pleasure to stand next to him on the beach, I am forever grateful to him for giving me his time and advice. So rest easy my friend and like a favorite plug lost to an errant cast, I will miss you.
